God is not found in the wind, the earthquake or fire. God is found in a sound of sheer silence (Kings 19:11). Silence allows us to listen to the Word of God. The Synod of Synodality will be using many silences to allow the Spirit room to move. Here in Australia after the weekend's failed referendum on recognition of Indigenous Australians in the Constitution by the form of a Voice to Parliament, Indigenous leaders are calling for a week of silence across the country to grieve and reflect on the outcome. In the Middle East the clamour of voices raised in anger and fear are drowning any calls for more measured responses. Let us pray this week that those grieving are given the opportunity to be silent, so as to find healing, peace, optimism, pathways to the future, and God.
