A sceptic came to the Rabbi with questions. “What use is religion?” the sceptic asked. “There is so much trouble and misery in the world despite hundreds of years of teaching about goodness, faith, and loving one’s neighbour. If religion were true, wouldn’t it make sense that the world would be a better place?”The rabbi did not answer right away. But when he spied a little boy who was filthy, he said, “Take a look at the that little boy. He is dirty. Yet you and I both know that soap will make him clean. Still, he is dirty. Does this mean that soap is useless?”
But Rabbi,” the sceptic observed. “Soap is of no use unless it is used.”“Exactly,” said the rabbi. “So it is with religion. It has no use unless it is applied and used.” (Faith to Live By)
Next time you are in the supermarket, you might consider purchasing one or two items extra for both St. Vincent de Paul (just place them in the baskets at the church) and our Community Food Pantry (leave them in the unpowered fridge situated between the office and garages. Both are in dire need of non-perishable items to help those in need residing in our community.
