On 21 September, a Prayer and Reflection Day on the future of Summer Camp was held. Two groups discerned that the Diocesan Summer Camp should continue (one group stipulated with significant reservations) and two groups discerned that the Diocesan Summer Camps should discontinue and be reassessed later. The benefits, value and significance of the Diocesan Summer Camp was the major reason for continuing. The state of volunteers (both numbers and burnout) and the diminished capacity of parishes to support and engage with the Diocesan Summer Camp were the major reasons for the Diocesan Summer Camp to discontinue. The split nature of the group’s discernment on the day reflects the significant and complex nature of the issues at hand. The process of prayer and discernment helped in identifying and clarifying all the pertinent factors in this decision. The final decision requires more prayer and discernment. Thank you to Fr. Archie Carampatan for facilitating the day and to everyone who supported us through prayer. A full report can be obtained by email dioyouth@bunburycatholic.org.au
